Propose A Study

Thank you for your interest in proposing a new DARFI study to examine and better understand a rare or atypical fracture or injury.

DARFI is able to support and facilitate the delivery of retrospective national studies on atypical and rare fractures and injuries within the remit of our database NHS REC approval (IRAS ID: 331288) using REDCap.

Any NHS researcher can submit a proposal for a new study and serve as its principle investigator (PI). Partner DARFI sites are be able to participate in any new approved DARFI study once they’ve been fully onboarded by Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Research & Innovation Department. This process can be initiated by completing an expression of interest form to help facilitate signing of the relevant agreements between Trusts.

Partner sites are able to upload pseudonymised data using REDCap. Once data data collection for the approved study is complete, the lead study researcher is then able to request the data in a fully anonymised format for analysis, presentation and publication.

DARFI’s research committee meets on the last Friday of every month to discuss submitted proposals.

Next Meetings:

  • Friday 26th July 2024
  • Friday 30th August 2024
  • Friday 27th September 2024

To propose a new study, download and complete a new DARFI study protocol template.

Once completed, please email it to: darfi@liverpoolft.nhs.uk at least two weeks before the next DARFI research committee meeting. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the team.

Approved studies would be supported by Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Research & Innovation Department and covered by DARFI’s NHS REC approval.
